Step 7: Assign Users

After a successful migration, you can assign the new permission sets to users directly from the wizard. This step is optional -- you can always assign them later through Salesforce Setup.

Who Gets Shown

SimplePerm finds the users who currently have each successfully migrated profile assigned. You'll see a user count per profile so you know how many people are affected.

Profiles whose migration failed don't appear here -- there's no permission set to assign.

Assigning Permission Sets

Select the users you want, then click Assign. SimplePerm handles the assignment in bulk with duplicate prevention built in -- if a user already has the permission set (maybe from a previous run), that assignment is silently skipped instead of throwing an error.

Assignment Results

You'll see a summary showing how many assignments succeeded and, if any failed, the error details. The wizard then advances to the Done step after a short pause.

note

This step is optional. You can assign permission sets later from Setup > Permission Sets > [your permission set] > Manage Assignments. Skipping it doesn't affect the permission sets that were just created.

What About Removing the Profile?

SimplePerm creates permission sets and can assign them, but it does not modify or remove the original profile. Profiles can't be deleted in Salesforce, and changing a user's profile is a separate decision that depends on your org's access model.

The recommended approach:

  1. Migrate the profile to a permission set with SimplePerm.
  2. Assign the permission set to the relevant users.
  3. Gradually reduce the profile's permissions as you shift to a permission-set-based model.
  4. Use the Compare feature in SimplePerm's Permission Viewer to verify coverage as you make changes.

You're Done

The wizard shows a completion screen. From here you can:

  • View migration history -- Jump to the History tab to review logs.
  • Start another migration -- Migrate additional profiles.
  • Close the wizard -- Return to where you were.

Everything is recorded in the History tab, so you can come back and review the details anytime.
